Workshop on Modality and Polyphony
In this seminar, Michalis Cholevas will explore and present the relationship of monophony and polyphony and the possibility of combining the microtones (kommas) of Turkish classical music (makam modal system) with the system of (western) polyphony.
The result is to harmonize traditional pieces of Greece and Ottoman classical music and new original compositions as well, that make use of ''movable'' notes and the modality of makam system.
