World Youth Choir Concerts (UNESCO Artist for Peace)
For the first time in Cyprus we will have the opportunity to enjoy the concerts of the World Youth Choir will give three A capella concerts with exceptional choral music with works by F. Poulenc, B. Britten a.o, under the baton of conductor Cecilia Rydinger Alin.
The concerts will take place all over the island as follows:
Thursday 16 August 2012, 19:30, Pedoulas Gymnasium (entrance free)
Saturday 18 August 2012, 20:30, Ancient Odeion, Paphos (tickets €10 at the entrance)
Sunday 19 August 2012, 20:30, Municipal Museum Thalassa, Ayia Napa (entrance free)
The choir is invited to Cyprus by the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra Foundation, in order to give these A capella concerts, as well as a series of concerts with the Cyprus Youth Symphony Orchestra, within the framework of the KYPRIA International Festival 2012. Two evening concerts with title “Towards a Europe of Peace” will be given under the artistic direction of Ayis Ioannides on 30 and 31 August 2012 at the Strovolos Municipal Theatre, Nicosia at 8:30pm.
The choir which consists of 60 members will be participating at the International Summer Music Academy of the Cyprus Youth Symphony Orchestra in order to prepare the programme for the KYPRIA Festival.
This year, the International Summer Music Academy, takes place at the high mountain village of Pedoulas between 20 August and 2 September 2012.
