Biography
Cypriot pianist Yiannis Georgiou was born in London and spent his childhood in Cyprus and England. He received his early music training at the Royal College of Music Junior Department. He studied at Trinity College of Music in London, with Alexander Ardakov and John Bingham, where he received numerous competition prizes and graduated with the Dip TCL Performer's Diploma.
His fascination for the Russian piano school and his love for Russian music led him tocontinue his studies in Moscow, at the Tchaikovsky Conservatoire, initially with Professor Valery Kastelsky, a student of Heinrich Neuhaus, and finally with Pavel Nersessian, whose piano studio is regarded as one of the most interesting and prolific in the world. He graduated with the Aspirant Diploma. Yiannis Georgiou is the only Cypriot Pianist to have received this award. He has performed extensively as a soloist, mainly in the UK, but also in Greece and Cyprus. His debut CD with works by Beethoven, Schumann and Debussy received excellent critical reviews and has been repeatedly broadcast on British radio. Yiannis Georgiou has been living in Cyprussince 2004.
