Yiorgos Mazonakis

The Greek singer Yiorgos Mazonakis is coming again to Cyprus for a unique performance at the Pavilion Hall in Nicosia.

Giorgos Mazonakis was born and grew up in the suburbs of Athens, in the area called Nikaia. Before even reaching adulthood he showed clear preference to Greek folk songs and artists such as Stratos Dionysiou, Yannis Parios, Marinella, Charoula Alexiou, without ignoring the music currents such as rock which was particularly popular at that time.

By the age of 15 it was clear to him that his goal was to become a professional singer. His debut appearance was in a night club of Patras, where from the record company “Universal” (poligram at the time) discovered him. As a consequence of his temperament, his progressive ideas uniqueness and his performance abilities he soon started performing to bigger clubs in Athens where he changed the stereotypes of Greek night life.

At the same time Giorgos Mazonakis started touring in Greece Cyprus, Germany, Australia well as various states of America such as New York, New-Jersey, Atlanitc City and Chicago. His song “mou leipeis” which was chosen as the song of an advertising campaign of a world wide known car manufacturer triggered the release of a “best of” album in Greece and Italy which became a great success. In 2002 the already established singer participated in a soundtrack of the movie “kourastika na skotono tous agapitikous sou” where he recorded two songs composed by Stamatis Kraounakis called “kamikaze” and “ximeronei pali”.

Giorgos Mazonakis throughout the 16 years of his discography and throughout the years of his live performances where he stood either alone or he collaborated with popular artists he experienced profound success. He put himself in a continuously changing and evolving process concerning his personal style and his repertoire choices.
He has always been known for his crystal clear opinion about his aesthetical directions his sheer professionalism and the simplicity of his beliefs. It seems that is all about a singer which is hard to group in the stereotyped categories already existing in the Greek music industry.
