Yond.Side.Fore.Hind

The Office gallery on the occasion of the establishment of the dance company STRATES by Harris Gkekas, presents the video: Yond.Side.Fore.Hind.

The characters of “Yond.Side.Fore.Hind” find themselves in a peculiar context. As they experience the discovery of a new and unknown place, they realise that all of their previous knowledge seems useless.

As they journey further into the unknown they come up with new approaches towards their surroundings as well as each other.

Their research begins with a partnership. They cover and follow each other through the journey, acting as a team.

The more they move on, however, the more they start drifting away from one another. Instinctively, their own individual perspectives overshadow the needs of the collective, and their initial excitement fades.

The euphoria they experienced following their discovery subsides, as feelings of greed take over and they find themselves closer to committing “hubris”.

Realising their lack of maturity, and that a step further would be a step too far, they look at each other with renewed confidence and take a step back towards reason.

“Yond.Side.Fore.Hind.” is embodied by two dancers, but it was not meant to remain constrained in to a duet. The activities of the characters are independent of their number.
