Young LeonARTos: Creating out of nothing
In the framework of the Kids University, the ARTos Foundation in collaboration the with Vineyard Film Festival and Cans for Kids, is organizing the already established crash course for kids 7-13 years old on March 27th, 29th, 30th and 31st, 2010. An invitation to a magic journey of knowledge, adventure and creation.
This original kid’s workshop for young Scientists-Creators under the title "Young LeonARTos: Creating out of nothing" is a unique opportunity for 4 days of free navigation within the space of arts and science. Through the various activities, the kids will have the opportunity to create and invent (from trivial materials, virtually nothing) the world they live in, the space and the people they share their lives with.
Through the educational multidisciplinary activities, the kids will be called upon to create in the context of the arts and sciences, in workshops entitled:
Kids Film-making (Part of Vineyard Film Festival and Cans for Kids)
This is a whole day activity, including a field trip to the cans sorting depot, where they will have a guided tour and the recycling process will be explained to them. Upon their return to ARTos, they will have lunch and then become familiarized with the cretive process behind making a film. Following this, they will have the chance to try out film-making. And all this with the guidance of film professionals from Cyprus and abroad, as well as the inspired group of Cans for Kids.
Moving World: Animation workshop using recyclable materials. The kids will have the opportunity to create their own world and their own stories and to learn and apply the principles of stop animation.
Making Costumes out of Nothing: In the context of the workshop, the kids will have the opportunity to design and create costumes belonging to th real world, or an imaginary world that they create. The costumes will be made from old clothes or other materials.
Dynamic Sculpturing: Creation of sculptures with utilitarian use –or not!- (they may be the walls of a house or the setting for a play), with the use of technology and “useless” materials.
Casual kitchen physics: Surprises of Everyday life: With the use of every day materials that we find at home, and with a generous dose of imagination, we examine the workings of nature through pioneering scientific experiments.
Once Upon a Time… IDEA!: Story Telling and Story Boarding: Interactive storytelling, involving the imagination, the body, the voice and objects we find lying around. There will also be a story-boarding process taking place, thus documenting the process of the story.
Times:
Saturday, 27/3: 9:30 – 18:00 (the entire day is dedicated to Cans for Kids, and will include a field trip, lunch break and workshop in the context of which the kids will make their own movie)
Monday 29/3, Tuesday 30/3 and Wednesday 31/3: 8.00 – 13.00 (kids can be at ARTos from 7:30 to 2:30)
