Youth Power Party!

Cyprus : Youth Power Party!

Celebrating a new chapter for youth activism in Cyprus!

Youth Power, the Cyprus-wide network of youth organizations, is pleased to celebrate the launch of its new identity and its new project, the Youth Power Small Grants, with a Youth Power Party to be held on Monday 30 January, 2012, 6 p.m., at the Home for Cooperation, in the Buffer Zone. There will be snacks and drinks, string music (guitar and violin) as well as a treasure hunt for a fabulous prize. We will be giving out special tokens of appreciation to the independent young group of Youth Leaders and Cultural Activists, in recognition of their outstanding contribution to peace activism, and plenty of other little gifts to all our guests! The party is open to everyone and entrance is free.

Youth Power is a network of 12 diverse, Greek-Cypriot and Turkish-Cypriot organizations that promote or affiliate with youth activism. Our mission is to inspire, energize and strengthen the youth’s efforts to shape a peaceful and sustainable future, for a multicultural Cyprus. The Youth Power Party aims to present our new, dynamic identity, our Small Grants Initiative – a project to help organizations as well as independent groups to gain financial support for their own peace-building initiatives – and celebrate this promising new chapter of our work, together with friends and supporters, new and old.

Youth Power was born out of the, UNDP funded, Youth Activism Project, which motivated youths towards peace-building from 2009 to 2011.

“Our efforts to build a peaceful, sustainable, multicultural Cyprus, comprised of aware, empowered and active citizens have been unrelenting,” states Project Manager Sezis Thompson. “We are now celebrating a new and exciting chapter in the history of Cypriot youth activism!”

In her statement, Associate Project Manager, Katerina Antoniou, says: “Events such as the Youth Power Party aim to provide a fertile common environment for everyone interested in peace activism. Especially the passionate youths, we know are out there, craving to dedicate their time and energy to construct a better future for Cyprus. Our goal is to keep providing them with the support they need, in order to give them the best possible chance to bring their dream of peace to life.”
