Angie Hiesl & Roland Kaiser: Workshop and Lecture

Dance Gate Lefkosia Cyprus, founding member of Dancehouse Lefkosia, and an associate member of the European Dancehouse Network and a partner of the EU-funded project Modul-Dance (www.modul-dance.eu), after the successful residency of Slovenian artist Jurij Konjar with workshop and performances in December 2012, is happy to announce the next Modul-Dance artist, Angie Hiesl (www.angiehiesl.de).

Angie Hiesl is a worldwide known artist/director/choreographer especially known for her highly developed international site specific projects. Angie, and her artistic partner Roland Kaiser, will be in Nicosia from 6 to 18 February working on the subject of transgender and transexuality as part of their research as selected Modul Dance artists.

Angie and Roland are also invited to give a workshop and a lecture on Site Specific Work for professionals and students from the fields of visual arts, performing arts and interdisciplinary research and practices. The workshop and lecture is part of the collaboration of Dance Gate Lefkosia and VERAMàND STUDIO in the frame of the latter’s OpEN PLUS+ platform and it will take place at VERAMàND STUDIO on Saturday, 16 February, 10:30-13:30. Description of the Project:
The intercultural interdisciplinary performance-project deals with different concepts, traditions and prospects of gender identification. The performers will be transsexuals from Bangladesh and Europe, people who do not identify themselves with the classical gender role they were assigned to by birth. With regard to gender identification we are used to watch the world on the exclusive basis of duality: female and male. Connected to that are societal role assignments. The project questions the exclusivity of the classical sexual duality and turns the attention on non-conform manifestations of gender identification. TransGender/TransSexuality (wt) will be an interdisciplinary project in public and private space composed of installation and performative elements.

Bio Angie Hiesl:
The director, choreographer, performance and installation artist Angie Hiesl grew up in Venezuela, Perú and Germany. She is one of the first choreographers in Germany that developed exclusively site-specific projects. Under the label Angie Hiesl Produktion, situated in Cologne/Germany, she conceptualizes and produces her interdisciplinary works in urban spaces. Many of her artistic works are produced together with international partners and are presented worldwide.

Bio Roland Kaiser:
The director, choreographer, performing and visual artist Roland Kaiser studied experimental theatre and dance. Since 1997 he is the artistic partner of Angie Hiesl. All productions of Angie Hiesl Produktion since have been created under their joint artistic leadership.
