When we leave (Die Fremde)
Umay, a young German woman of Turkish origin, escapes from an unhappy marriage in Constantinople and returns to Berlin with her son Cem. Her unexpected arrival there provokes a violent reaction from her family which is still imprisoned in old traditions, and therefore decides to send Cem back to his father. Umay tries to avoid the consequences of this decision and thus is forced to leave her home again. What she does not recognize though, is how deeply she is hurt and how dangerous her fight for independence really is.
